IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Lyman
Sullivan
July 9, 1925 – December 20, 2024
John was born in Momence, IL to his parents William and Elfrieda Sullivan. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and his three siblings. He is survived by his son, John Sullivan (Sue Stock); daughter, Joyce Kieras; granddaughters, Dawn Sullivan and Erin Sullivan (Adam Gullickson); and great-grandsons Brady Bonic-Sullivan and Felix Gullickson.
At the age of 18 years old, John enlisted in the Army and proudly served in WWII in Italy. He received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. After returning home from the War, John met his wife, Evelyn Christensen Sullivan, and he moved to Kankakee, IL, where he made his home with his wife. John retired as a Conductor from the Conrail Railroad after working 43 years for the railroad system.
John was a faithful member of his church for many years serving as an usher, deacon, youth group leader, was on the men's dart team, went to the weekly men's Bible Study, and did computer work for the church. John loved playing cards, playing tennis, and doing woodworking. John's personality brought warmth and joy to everyone he encountered and his passing will be mourned deeply by everyone who knew and loved him.
John was cremated and some of his ashes will be sprinkled this summer in Italy, where he served in the Army during WWII. The remaining ashes and urn will be buried next to his wife at Memorial Gardens in Kankakee, IL. His memory will remain in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those who were honored to have had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy will live on for generations to come, inspiring those around him with his kindheartedness, generosity, and unforgettable spirit.
There will be a committal of the urn with Max Reams officiating to be announced.
