Obituary

John Pierpont Morgan was born on May 4, 1930 in the Village of Buxton on the  East Coast of Demerara in then British Guiana.  He was the last of nine children born to Catherine and Samuel Morgan and, on January 6,2022, when he passed away peacefully at his home in Clermont, Florida, he was the last of his siblings to do so.

John was educated at the Methodist Elementary School and, in later years, attended the Catholic High School in Georgetown, British Guiana. He furthered his education at both Morgan State University in Maryland and Rutgers University in New Jersey, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the latter university.  Though he did not attend church on a regular basis, John was profoundly religious as all, who knew him well, would attest.

Before taking up residence in the United States in 1960, John was a police officer in Guyana where he worked at Government House or walked the beat, patrolling the streets of Georgetown, British Guiana.  After graduating from Rutgers, John was employed at Chase Manhattan Bank where, for many years, he held the position of assistant manager of a branch in Brooklyn, New York.  In 2000, John retired from his position as a loan officer at the Municipal Credit Union and began to focus on realizing one of his dreams: enjoying the beautiful weather in Florida. In 2004, John and Audrey moved from their home in Freeport, New York and took up residence in Clermont, Florida.

John married the love of his life, Audrey Jackson, on December 28, 1974.  Both John and Audrey were dedicated to family and, not surprisingly, a warm welcome awaited members of their respective families in their beautiful homes in New York and Florida. Uncle John, as he was endearingly called, holds a special place in the heart of each niece and nephew whom John mentored, befriended or spoilt. Today, many of them are professionals whom John influenced in no small measure.

John was a great lover of music and had amassed quite a collection of musical tapes, which he delighted in sharing with family and friends, when hosting holiday and family festivities.  John also loved to regale his listeners with tales of his experiences with his Volkswagen Beetle. However, nothing could diminish his love for a BMW which afforded him the opportunity to take long drives to explore the countryside with Audrey.   John had a knack for interior decorating. He took great pleasure in beautifying and modifying his home.  He was passionate about achieving symmetry and balance in all things.  This was defined by his motto, his expression of absolute perfection, "Making the Geometry Right".

John leaves to mourn him his beloved wife Audrey, in laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  He was very loving, caring and passionate about life.  His memory will be cherished forever.  May he find eternal love and peace in the arms of his Eternal Father.
