Obituary

John Joseph McCabe

October 7, 1940 – February 1, 2023

John Joseph McCabe, 82, of Clermont, FL went home to be with the Lord February 1, 2023. He was born October 7, 1940 in Philadelphia, PA.  The family moved to Washington, DC when John was very young.  He was raised in the Catholic Church where he served as an altar boy.  He graduated from Archbishop John Carroll High School in Washington, D.C. in 1958 and was the recipient of the Accounting Award.  John graduated from Benjamin Franklin University in 1963 with a Bachelor of Commercial Science Degree.  He spent his career working in various accounting management roles.  He retired from his job as Manager of Financial Reporting at Holy Cross Hospital of Silver Spring, MD in 2003 after more than 20 years of service.

John and his wife, Linda moved to Clermont, Florida shortly after he retired.  They fell in love with Family Christian Center Church and became members.  John had been a member of FCC for 17 years.  He loved God with all that was in him.  He was a man who believed that actions speak louder than words and lived out his faith quietly always looking for opportunities to help others.  He often spent hours doing research to connect people to resources. He was never too busy to help someone in need.

So, John moved to Florida for the weather. He loved swimming in the pool as often as he could, but the real reason he chose Florida was his love of all things Disney.  He spent many happy hours in the parks, sometimes just walking around people watching.  He especially enjoyed the Food and Wine festival.  He made sure most of the grandchildren and great grandchildren had the "Disney" experience too.

Also, John was a foodie.  He loved dining out.  He enjoyed everything from burger joints to fine French restaurants, but he was also an excellent cook.  He made a killer chicken marsala and a delicious fresh tomato sauce among many other dishes.  He loved to travel and took every opportunity to do just that.  He passed that love on to his family by including family members on many trips.  After retirement, he discovered he loved cruising.

John had many talents and interests.  One of those was information technology.  He kept up with the latest applications and shared his knowledge with others. One of his grandsons went into the field as a result of John's influence.

Finally, John may be remembered most for his sense of humor and his quick wit.  He loved telling stories and joking around with his friends and family.  He was telling stories and jokes right up until the end.  He always made people laugh.

John is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda McCabe; 2 children, Joan Lord and Michelle (Evans) Taluy; 11 grandchildren, Tiffany Lord, Chris Lord, Samantha (Clayton) Moultrie, Savana McCabe, Miranda McCabe, Howard Greene, Jay Greene, Cierra Jones, Elan Taluy, Elaina (Derek) Buehler, Evan Taluy; 20 great grandchildren and Copper the dog.

He is predeceased by his son, John McCabe and his granddaughter, Lynnette Greene.
