IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John W.
Martinez
January 16, 1957 – August 3, 2022
John passed away on Wednesday, August 3rd, safely at home with his family beside him. Not long after his 65th birthday, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Mesothelioma. It is a ruthless disease that progressed more rapidly than anyone was prepared for. John was born in Milwaukee, WI, and grew up in the Bay View area. He was a proud graduate of the last class at Boys Tech, and went on to become a Journeyman Steamfitter, completing 35 years in the trade. More than anything, John loved his family and friends. Being a father was his most fulfilling and proudest achievement. He leaves a lasting legacy of love evident in the eyes and actions of his children. To know John was to know what he enjoyed, as sharing his passions was evident in all he did. Whether it was lifting a pint of craft brew, making an extra large batch of tamales entirely from scratch, listening to a range of music from local solo artists to bucket list concerts, celebrating his heritage, sitting around the fire with a fine scotch, and so many other things, his life was about sharing the experience. His passing leaves a hole in the hearts of the many who loved him: his wife, his amazing children (his own, their spouses, and the countless number he loved as his own), as well as his parents, siblings, in-laws, aunts, uncle, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends too many to count. No formal services are immediately planned. Details for a proper fiesta in Wisconsin will follow. We ask that you remember John whenever you partake in those things you enjoyed together; raise a pint, share a laugh, spread his kindness and joy. He will never be forgotten.
