John Joseph Kompara, 78, Clermont, FL passed away on Monday, April 21, 2014. John was born April 12, 1936 in Canton, OH to the late Albert & Mary Kompara. John was a star athlete at McKinley High School in Canton. He received a full scholarship to the University of South Carolina. After graduation, he was drafted by the New York Giants in the 13th round, 155th overall to the NFL. He also played with the San Diego Chargers, Baltimore Colts & Boston Patriots and the Canadian Football League. Upon the end of his football career he held a number of positions in Industrial Management such as; Goodyear Aero Space, Maurey Instruments & Hammond Organ Company. When Hammond closed, he opened three restaurants in East Tennessee. In 1980 he and his family moved to Illinois where he was employed in sales, predominately in insurance. In 2004 he and his wife Diane retired to Clermont. He was active in the NFL Retired Football Players Association, especially the Chicago & Orlando chapters. He was loved by many and had a unique way of making and gathering friends wherever he lived. He was a larger than life person who always showed his family unconditional love & protection. He is survived by his wife Diane Kompara and his children Jonathan Kompara (wife Julia) from Huntington Beach, CA; Christopher Kompara from Johnson City, TN; Steven Kompara from Canton, OH & Anastasia Coakley (husband Matthew) from Clermont. He is also survived by his three wonderful grandchildren; Katie & Becca Kompara from Huntington Beach & Joseph Coakley from Clermont.



A Prayer Service will be held at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 in the day chapel at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 720 12th Street, Clermont, FL 34711.
