A Celebration of Life Service for John Hogan, age 65, of Clermont, Florida will be held on Friday, March 4, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Becker Funeral Home, Chaplain Mary Farah will be officiating. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Massena, New York at a later date. A luncheon will follow the service.
John passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit of Florida Hospital in South Orlando.
John Hogan, known as Hogie, was born on March 22, 1945 in Carlisle, Pennsylvania to John and Ruth Boyce Hogan. Upon graduation from Massena Central HS in 1962 John attended university. He graduated from Potsdam State University College in 1967 and for a short time John taught school at Salmon River Central School until such time he began work for U.S. Immigration. After 32 years of service John retired as Port Director of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
For a time he worked for immigration at the Toronto Airport. While there John met and married his wife, Eva, on May 22, 1981. He and Eva also lived in Cape Vincent, NY and Kingston, Ontario, Canada before retiring to Florida.
He was a member of many Masonic Organizations including the Media Shrine Temple and Royal Order of Jesters.
Surviving John are his wife, Eva. His step children HninWai and Jim Sheffield of Orton, Ontario, Canada; his stepson David of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; grandchildren, Sterling, Connor, Mackenzie, Blue and Cody; his aunt and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents John and Ruth Hogan.
John enjoyed his friends and family, playing golf and having a good laugh.
A special thank you to his wonderful doctors at the Florida Hospital, Dr. Reddy, Dr. Khalid, Dr. Jamnandas and all the wonderful nurses and staff of the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, plus, Chaplain Mary Farah for prayers, friendship and her wonderful sense of worship. Also a heartfelt thank you to Emily Collins of Chicago who generously donated her bone marrow to John.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to The Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at Florida Hospital, South Orlando, Shriners Childrens Hospital or the Clermont Humane Society.
