JoAnne O. Saunders, 73, Clermont, passed away June 28, 2011 at Orlando Regional Medical Center. She was born August 2, 1937 in Hart, MI and moved to Dunedin, FL in 1953. On October 5, 1957 she was united in marriage to George Frederick Saunders and in 1959 moved to Clermont. An accomplished seamstress, she made many cheerleader uniforms, prom dresses and lingerie. A 42 year member of First United Methodist Church, she sang in the choir and as chairperson of the prayer chain, she touched many people. She also sang in the Orlando Messiah Coral Society for several years. Surviving is her husband of 53 years, Fred Saunders; children Dean (Gina) Saunders, Lakeland; Bruce Saunders, Clermont & Kathi Jo (Ken) McWhorter, Cumming GA & grandchildren Lauren, Trent, Caroline & Katie.
The family will have a private graveside service in Curlew Pioneer Cemetery in Palm Harbor. A public service to celebrate the life of JoAnne Saunders will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 8, 2011 in the sanctuary at First United Methodist Church of Clermont. Reverend Doug Kokx will officiate, followed by a reception in the Wesley Center.
