Jeffrey Stephen Luck passed away on Monday, April 17, 2017 at the age of 82 in Minneola, Florida. Jeff was born in Freeman, West Virginia on September 14, 1934, to the late Thomas, Sr., and Elsaida Luck. He was the fourth child and the next to the last child born. Having passed away before him were his brother Thomas in 2002, his sister Priscilla in 2004, and his youngest brother Richard in 1987.
After completing high school, Jeff joined the United States Marine Corp and later received an honorable discharge with the rank of Corporal (E-3) after serving many years. In 1959 Jeff met Shirley Cabbagestalk at New York's Mount Sinai Hospital where they worked in the Department of Radiology. They married in 1961 in Brooklyn, New York. The following year they welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Michelle Renee who was the apple of his eye. After many years of living in New York City and New Jersey Jeff headed south in 2004 to Minneola, Florida.
He was a gregarious, jovial and genial man who loved to entertain family and friends. He especially enjoyed spending time with his only granddaughters, Sydnei and Shelbi Harper. Grandpa Jeff, as the girls affectionately called him, loved his cooking and his story telling. Jeff enjoyed listening to classical music as well as jazz which could be heard all through the house on a daily basis.
While living in New York in the 1960s Jeff became involved with Harlem Youth Opportunities Unlimited (HARYOU) and other various organizations. In Florida he was very active with the Friends of Cooper Memorial Library and the Friends of Minneola Schoolhouse Library where he served as President until his death. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Clermont, Florida.
During his lifetime Jeff traveled to Japan, Hong Kong and Thailand, as well as Germany, Italy and the Caribbean.
Jeffrey leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his daughter, Michelle Luck Harper (husband, Ronald) and granddaughters Sydnei and Shelbi Harper; his only surviving brother, Wilbert Luck, of Silver Spring, MD; his nephew Ronald Allen (wife, Char) of Morgantown, WV; niece, Lisa Allen (daughter, Melinda) of Manchester, NH; niece, Casilda Luck-Barnes (husband, Demaree Barnes) and their daughters, Chase and Morgan of South Orange, NJ; niece, Kimberly Luck (daughter, Renee) of Charlotte, NC; nephews, Hurlon and Sherill Luck of San Jose, CA; niece, Kendall Luck Laidlaw, (husband, Stewart) and their son Sean, of San Francisco, CA. Surviving also is Robert Dempsey, confidant and companion, of Minneola Florida, and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July, 8th 2017 at 703 Whisper Sound Street , Minneola, Florida from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
