IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jeannette M
Smith
October 25, 1938 – May 23, 2021
Jeannette "Jeannie" Miriam McQuoid Smith October 25, 1938 – May 23, 2021
Jeannette Smith was born in Lake Nebagamon, Wisconsin, the fourth and youngest child of Frank W. McQuoid and Miriam H. McQuoid.
Frank McQuoid was a Baptist preacher who served in churches across the Northern Midwest. Miriam McQuoid was a teacher.
Jeannette chose to follow Jesus as her Lord and Savior at 5 years old at the knee of her mother. Next, Jeannette learned to play piano, taught by her mother. Soon, she accompanied the hymn singing in churches in which her father preached. By 12 years old, Jeannette never turned back. Piano was her instrument, her voice that enabled her to praise the Lord.
After graduating from high school at Luverne, Minnesota, Jeannette began Bible College in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul), all the while accompanying hymns and choirs at Fourth Baptist Church, Minneapolis and working for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Minneapolis.
The Lord continued to guide Jeannette's heart and moved her to Chattanooga, Tennessee in May 1960. At Tennessee Temple University, an organist was waiting, and it took less than a week for them to meet.
During her three years at Tennessee Temple, she:
* Married the organist, J. LaVerne "Verne" Smith, on May 30, 1961
* Taught piano as student faculty during the 1961-63 academic years
* Graduated with a degree in piano performance
In 1964, Verne and Jeannie began their music ministry together in Chattanooga, with Verne as Minister of Music and Jeannie as Pianist. Later in 1964, they moved to the land of the Great Lakes, and from 1964 to 1995 served in six churches together:
* Verne as music minister, program coordinator, choral and congregation conductor, and private organ and voice instructor
* Jeannie as music arranger, accompanist, performer, and private piano instructor
By 1998, Verne and Jeannie moved to Clermont, Florida and started S MITH S CHOOL O F M USIC which taught more than 600 students in the 21 years its doors were open.
Finally, Jeannie and Verne ministered on the piano and organ at First United Methodist Church – Clermont from 2015 to 2021.
Throughout their years together, Jeannie and Verne touched the lives of innumerable souls. Their bond, solidified through their music and love of Jesus, is an example of a true marriage, made and blessed by Heaven.
Jeannette is survived by:

* Her daughter: Pamela M. Smith
* Her son: Timothy D. and his wife, Lori Jean Smith
* Her grandchildren (Tim's children): Zachary M. and Dillon T. Smith
