Obituary

Jean V. Schopmeyer, age 96, passed away on Sept. 6, 2016 at the Mike Conley Hospice House in Clermont, FL. She was born July 26, 1920 in New York City, NY. Jean came to Clermont where she married John W. Schopmeyer in 1946. Before coming to Florida, Jean did hand modeling in the New York City area. Jean worked at the front desk of Clermont Cleaners and Citrus Tower Gift Shop for 10 years each and retired after 15 years from Carolyn Candies in 1985. Jean was an involved and active member at St. Matthias Episcopal Church since 1950 until the past few years due to being wheelchair bound. Jean enjoyed gardening, feeding and caring for stray cats, having Christmas dinner parties in her home, baking and giving mini loaves of tea breads, collecting porcelain dolls of the many countries she had traveled to and talking of her travel adventures. Before her brother moved to Ocala in 1994, Jean drove to New Rochelle, NY to visit him on a regular basis.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan Howard Wood of Eustis, FL; grandson, Michael (Jennifer) Howard of Casselberry, FL; and two great grandchildren, Skye & Hunter, and her friends.

There will be a Memorial Service to celebrate Jean's life at St. Matthias Episcopal Church on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Matthias Episcopal Church, 572 W. Montrose St., Clermont, FL 34711 or to Mike Conley Hospice House, 2100 Oakley Seaver Blvd., Clermont, FL 34711.
