Obituary

Ms. Janice (Jan) Lee Johnson Godfrey, age 69, passed away Sunday morning December 29, 2024, peacefully at her home with her partner Mr. Gary Davis at her side. Jan was born in Joliet, Illinois Oct 24, 1955.

Jan was a guiding light of positivity, wherever she went a sunbeam seemed to follow.  The family is deeply saddened and shocked by her death. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of her family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by her. We ask that you remember Jan not for the way her life ended, but for the way she lived, and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Her beauty and infectious smile will never fade and remains as more than just a memory.  Jan is survived by her parents Donald and Roberta Johnson, Clermont, Fl, three siblings, Susan Johnson of Titusville, Fl, Terry Johnson of Tucson, Az, Charles Johnson and Darlene Espinoza, Marana, Az, two stepchildren, Stephanie Matheny of Suffolk, Va, Cody Davis of Yulee, Fl, and two grandchildren. Jan was an extremely intelligent, high performer. She excelled in all things, sports, school, and career. Everything she did, she did it right. During her career at Oracle Corporation in Orlando (1996 to 2010) she quickly became the top General Ledger Technical Analyst. She was legendary with coworkers and customers on resolving the most difficult database issues for the largest and most important customers.

She attained a B/S in Computer Science with high honors from DePaul University, Chicago Illinois while working as a programmer for Travelers relocation services. After graduating she was hired by Cincinnati Bell Information Systems which eventually relocated her to Orlando, Fl.  She became a leader and later moved on to the top data company in the world, Oracle. Jan became the lead for the General Ledger Technical Analyst department. She was diligent with saving and investing which led to an early retirement at age 59.

Jan loved reading, golfing, bowling, biking, traveling, friends, children, dogs, and most of all family. From 2004 to 2009 she ran in over forty races including six half-marathons around the country. She was an advocate for good health. Jan always appeared decades younger than her actual age. There was no one more health conscious than Jan Godfrey. Every holiday she made wonderful meals for all. The family would travel from afar for these events, with thanksgiving being her favorite, creating fantastic memories.
