Obituary

James Grant Vitter, loving husband and father, passed away at the Mike Conley Hospice House on Monday, May 25, 2015 at the age of 72 from Non-Hodgkin's T-Cell Lymphoma . Born in Erie, PA, Jim has lived in Orange and Lake counties for the past 51 years. Jim attended Penn State receiving bachelors and masters from FTU and ABD University of Florida.
Jim served in the USAF from 1964-1968 stationed in Japan and Vietnam. He was a Sargent in the Direct Air Support Flight receiving numerous commendations during his service.
Jim was a dedicated math teacher for 26 years in OCPS at Evans High School and Valencia College as well as a night school administrator and assistant swim coach. He also served as the president of the Florida Teacher's Union and a Washington lobbyist for Florida teachers and students.
An avid outdoorsman, Jim fished and hunted every lake and field from one end of Florida to the other.
Jim is survived by his wife, Barbara McLean Vitter, of Clermont; children Jennifer Vitter Bouschet (husband Steven) of Clermont and James Grant Vitter, II (wife Angie) of Vero Beach; and 6 grandchildren (Ryan, Michael, Andrew, Kenna, Cullen and Liam).

Arrangements are:

Memorial services will be provided by Becker Funeral Home (352-394-7121) and held at First United Methodist Church of Clermont on June 6, 2015 at 2:00 PM. Internment will be at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL at a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider donations in Jim's honor to the Mike Conley Hospice House and UF Health Cancer Center at Orlando Health.
Whenever Jim met a fellow Vietnam veteran he would always greet him by saying, "Welcome home brother". From everyone who loved Jim, we all say to him, "Welcome home brother, you are now truly home".
