James Edward Good, 72, died in his sleep at home in Clermont, Florida, on December 18, 2021.  An only child, he was born to Fred Good and Ruth McKenzie Good on October 25, 1949.  Jim grew up in the small town of Effingham in northeastern Kansas.  After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Army and was dispatched to Vietnam, where he served as gunner and commander on armored tanks.  Coming home to Kansas, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas State University in 1975.

Jim then embarked on a 20-year military career, holding various command and instructional positions worldwide.  For three years he trained and advised Saudi military staff.  Retired from the Army as a Major, he continued to pursue his aviation interests as a freelance pilot for air ambulance, air freight, and aerial photography companies.  He responded to calls for urgent action, transporting critical-care patients to the U.S. from as far away as South America.  Jim's final career was with Flight Safety International, where for seventeen years he trained pilots to fly business jets.

Jim was keenly interested in veterans' affairs and engaged in many hobbies.  His close friend Rod Mertz perhaps described him best: "Jim was an enthusiastic ballroom dance student.  He loved to dance, and his dance teachers loved him. . . .  Jim was an enthusiastic traveler, a skilled photographer, an avid reader, and a lover of aviation and flying.  He was a loyal and faithful friend."

Although Jim had little immediate family, he was fond of his extended family of cousins.  He rarely missed a family gathering and particularly liked to visit his mother's hometown of Solomon, Kansas.  He leaves behind eight cousins and a circle of admiring friends who share his cherished interests. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Eugene Cashman.

Jim will be buried in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.  A graveside service with military honors will take place there on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at 10:30 am.
