James "Jim" William Burns

Jim Burns, 83, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2021 in Clermont, Florida. He was born September 4, 1938 in De Smet, South Dakota to Katherine and Emmett Burns. He is preceded in death by them and by his siblings Marion Haas, Kenneth Burns and Alice Purintun. He graduated from St. Agatha Catholic High School in Howard, South Dakota and from South Dakota State University with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. Jim served in the Army from 1961-1963. He married Janet Marie Nenow on June 5, 1964 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They were married for 47 years until Jan passed away in 2011. Jim worked for the South Dakota Department of Transportation as a civil engineer. Upon retirement Jan and Jim moved to Clermont, Florida.
He is survived by he and Jan's three children Beth (Tim) Klein, Clermont Florida; Jeff (Carmen) Burns, Winter Garden Florida; and Amy (Jeff) Rainey, Bellevue Washington. Grandchildren Mark (Brittany) Klein and Conor Klein; Shelby and Garrett Burns; Madelyn, Ellie and Jace Rainey. Great grandchildren Tyler, Colby and Dylan Klein. Sister-in-law Marlys Nenow and many beloved Haas and Purintun nieces and nephews in South Dakota.
Services for James Burns will be held on September 20 th with visitation at Becker Funeral Home from 9:30 AM-10:30 AM with the Mass of the Resurrection to follow at 11 AM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The committal service will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Clermont.
