Obituary

James "Jim" A. Shirley, age 86, of Orlando, passed to glory on March 21, 2014. Jim was born on September 16, 1927 in Thomaston, Georgia to George and Bessie Shirley. He was a member of the Jordan Vocational High School basketball team that won the State Championship in 1943 and an inductee into the Athletic Hall of Fame, Jordan's highest honor. Jim was a soft spoken man with a kind heart who always loved to tell a good story. He loved to hear a good joke too. His smile was contagious and his laugh came from his heart. He was a restaurateur, a real estate agent, a loving husband, father and grandfather with a compassion for all living things. He loved Magic basketball and Braves baseball. Survivors: his wife, Tensi Shirley; daughter, Becky Bowers; grandson, David Bowers; son-in-law, Michael Bowers; and goddaughter, Sarah Dierking. Although we miss him greatly, we find comfort in knowing that Jim is telling his stories in heaven and keeping watch over his loved ones. Becker Funeral Home, Clermont, FL, is in charge of arrangements, 352-394-7121. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Diabetes Association are appreciated.
