Jack D. Simmons, Sr., 74, of Clermont, FL passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, January 29, 2011.Jack was born on June 5, 1936 in Bedford, IN the son of Lowell and Margaret (nee Corbin) Simmons.He attended Indiana University and was a varsity cheerleader there.He worked in Public Relations for Public Service of Indiana and after moving to Central Florida, served as Sales Manager for 25 years at Orange Buick.After retirement he moved to Clermont in 1999.Jack was a Sigma Alpha Epsilon, was one of the rare recipients bestowed the honor of being both a Kentucky Colonel and Sagamore of the Wabash, awarded the Outstanding Young Man of America by the Jaycees, and started the 1st Cancer Telethon in America in Bloomington, IN.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Phoebe(McCammon), children, Lisa Harnishfeger and husband, Stephen of Ocoee, FL, Jack Simmons, Jr.and Todd Nabors of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, William Scott Simmons of Ocoee, FL and Amy Beth Bell and husband, Ed of Debary, FL; sisterKaren Russell and her husband,Louie,of Columbus, IN and grandchildren, Christopher Harnishfeger and Scott Simmons.
A Celebration of Jack's life will be held at 4PM Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at Becker Funeral Home.The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorials to the Mike Conley Hospice House, Clermont, FL in Jack's name.
