IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jack C.
Neve, Jr.
August 19, 1947 – March 30, 2021
Jack C "Jay" Neve, Jr
1947 – 2021
Jay Neve was born in 1947, in Fort Lee, Virginia, and died on March 30, 2021, in Leesburg, FL. As the son of a career Army officer, he moved around frequently and lived in such places as Germany, Northern Virginia, and Hawaii before settling in Battle Creek, Michigan. He was not particularly well-behaved as a boy, and that did not change into adulthood. He did, however, excel at bowling and golf, and held the junior bowling record for several years after bowling a 279 game at the age of 16. He graduated from Pennfield High School in 1965.
Jay enlisted in the Army in 1966 and was trained as a Software Analyst. He was stationed in Korea, earning the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. After an honorable discharge in 1969, he came back to Battle Creek where he made the best decision of his life by marrying his wife, Susan Hammock, who he spent 51 years with.
Jay worked at Grand Trunk Railroad in such positions as clerk and yardmaster. He then took a position as a rural postal carrier. These things got in the way of what he really wanted to do, though, which was tie flies and fly fish. He had over a dozen fly patterns that were published in such books as "Stoneflies for the Angler", and was a founding member of the Michigan Chapter of the Brotherhood of the Junglecock Fly Fishing Club, serving as President in its second year. Jay also served as a bishop at the Church of the Pile of Sand. His other love was rock and prog music, and he saw hundreds of concerts throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife Susan; son, Cliff and daughter, Melissa; daughter in law Marilyn Neve and son in law Todd Felkey; grandkids Jerod Smith, Brittany Faragi, Jordan Neve, Tyler Christofferson, Kai neve-Jones, and Foster neve-Jones; great grandkids Savannah Smith, Pierce Smith, Ryah Faragi, Soufiane Faragi, and Madison Christofferson; brothers Jeff Neve (Tess) and David Neve (Charlotte); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents (Jack and Betty Neve) and his nephew (Matthew Neve).
There will not be any funeral services per his request, but the family asks that you do something small to remember him in your own way.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in Jay's name to the Children's Leukemia Foundation, https://www.clf4kids.org/
