Howard B. Siler, Jr., 69, of Clermont, FL passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at his home surrounded by loving his family. Howard was born June 18, 1945 in Newport News, Virginia, son of Doris M. Siler and Howard B. Siler, Sr. He served in the US Air Force and received The Airman's Medal. He made a career from insurance but his passion was Bobsledding. He was a 9 time member of a US World Team with a bronze medal in 1969, a 3 time Olympian, Coach of the USA Bobsledding Team and most famously the original coach of the Jamaican Bobsled team.
He has been a resident of Clermont since 1998.
Surviving him are his wife, Debra Shea Siler, whom he married in May 1997, three daughters, Lisa (Pat) Smith, Audra (David Elkins) Claypool and Christina (Cory) White; sisters, Doris (Charlie) Breazel and Kathy (Eddie) Young and 6 grandchildren Tyler, Morgan, Adrianna, Hunter, Alex and Chase and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Servcies for Howard Siler, Jr. will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, July 14, 2014 at Becker Funeral Home. Pastor Gordon "Bird" Sanders of Ferndale Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will take place at 1PM at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL, at which time military honors will be rendered. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10AM until service time Monday.
