Harry C. Camp, 83, of Clermont, FL, went home to Heaven on Saturday, October 19, 2013. He was born on March 17, 1930 in Newlin Township, Chester County, PA. He grew up in Downingtown, PA, and graduated from Downingtown High School in 1948. After graduating from high school, he attended Armstrong Vocational School. He served in the U.S. Navy on the Aircraft Carrier, the U.S.S. Coral Sea in the Mediterranean Sea from January 5, 1951 to November 2, 1954. Harry received Jesus Christ as his personal Savior in March 1955. He was introduced to Barbara after her salvation in May, and they were married in March of 1956. Harry worked for Bell Telephone Company in West Chester, PA. In 1959 after studying the Word of God, he was called by Malvern Methodist Church to be their lay pastor. In 1963 he quit his job and studied full-time after he was called of God to become an evangelist. In 1964 the family moved to Seneca, MO. Harry continued to provide for his family by working for the Telephone Company and also had an African night crawler worm farm on their sixty-five acre farm, as well as filling the pulpit of two country churches. During Harry' and Barbara' married life, their home was always open to young people who wanted to live with a Christian family to be able to glean and learn from their Godly example. In 1973 the Lord led them to Ephrata, PA. Harry again worked for the Telephone Company. The family attended Liberty Baptist Church where Harry and Barbara worked with the teens along with the youth pastor. Harry was ordained as Pastor on September 25, 1983. In 1983 the Camp family along with the Stewart family moved to Clermont, FL, to start Open Door Baptist Church in Harry' home where Harry served as the Assistant Pastor. He also was employed by S.T.S. as the area manager providing employees to Sprint Telephone Company from Ocala to Ft. Myers and doing quality control on all his employees. Part of his ministry was leading singing at Open Door Chapel. Several years later, he filled the pulpit until a full-time pastor was called at which time the name was changed to Chapel Baptist Church. In 1994 he developed cancer, not wanting the cancer to discourage him, he continued to encourage others and display a faithful spirit to all. He also worked several years for Dennis Cannon of State Farm Insurance taking photos for the company. For the past 14 years Harry ministered at Oak Park Assisted Living Facility (now Emeritus) in Clermont, FL. Every Tuesday morning Harry ministered to the residents in song and preaching the Word of God. He served at this ministry until September 10, 2013, stepping down due to failing health. Harry and Barbara have been happily married for 57 years. Harry was preceded in his death by his parents, Harry R. and Pearle Camp, and his only sister, Lorraine Pendergrast Simpson. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann Camp, Clermont, FL. son: Brian R. Camp (Barbara Marie) Minneola, FL. 2 daughters: Deborah Cantrell (Reid) Quitman, AR. and Barbara Sue Crane (Ray) Charlotte, NC. 3 grandchildren: Matthew Camp, Rebekah Crane, Jay Crane: and 1 great granddaughter: Emma Camp. Direct burial was held at Oakhill Cemetery on October 22, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. with immediate family members present. Naval officers provided military honors for Harry' Honorable service in the Navy. A memorial service to celebrate his life and continued legacy will be held at Astatula Baptist Church in Astatula, FL, on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at 3:00 p.m.
