Obituary

On Tuesday, October 2, 2018 Harold William Saxby of Seminole, FL, at the age of 94 years peacefully joined his soulmate, Elin Nancy Berggren Saxby while under the care of Empath Hospice. He was at home with his family at his side. Harold and his twin Sister, Helen were born in Newark Valley, NY on May 22, 1924 to John A. and Ruth Hall Saxby. In the words of Harold's late wife, he was a "real farmer". He raised 3 boys, Daniel, Dennis and David all of Phoenix, AZ. He had a blended family with Elin and was the father he did not have to be to Mary, Clayton of Ithaca, NY, Lola of Seminole, FL, and Nancy of Mountain Home, AR. Harold was a real gentleman. A hard working family man. He loved cows and the outdoors. His favorite season was Fall because of the leaves changing colors. Camping was his favorite thing to do. He collected travel brochures and taught two of his granddaughters (little Elin and Karen) how to read the old-fashioned paper maps. Cars were a big thing for him and he enjoyed watching Nascar. He loved teaching his family how to hand wash and then change the oil and tires of a car. The best chicken came from his BBQ grill. He enjoyed walking with his friends in the early morning hours. On Sundays he'd have a glass of orange juice, watch the news and read the newspaper in the screened–in Florida room. Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy were his favorite night time tv shows.

After his wife (our mom and grandma) died in July 2017 he worked hard to stay active as she had encouraged him to do. He was in a pedal club and he did not know it, but was soon to receive his 1,000 mile certificate of which he'd be so honored. He enjoyed daily phone conversations with his oldest son and often played a game of guessing which state his son was in as he travels a great deal. His great grandchildren often were able to face time with him. His "little buddy", Carter, enjoyed daily walks with him. All of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren will miss him tremendously. The world lost a wonderful man this week. He will be remembered for his contagious smile, kindness towards everyone and positive attitude. We are so thankful for the memories and take comfort in knowing he is at peace with our mom/grandma and their dog, Carter.
