Gerald Henderson, 74, died Monday, July 11, 2016 at his home in Ocoee, FL following a brief illness.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ethel (Rogers) Henderson; daughter, Tara Henderson of Orlando, FL; mother, Bonnie Robbins of Ocoee, FL; brother, Jerry (Nell) Robbins of Bonifay, FL; Claxton (Judy) Henderson of Semmes, AL; and Kendal (Faye) Henderson of Loxley, AL. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and people who considered him a second father. He was predeceased by his son, Jeffrey Henderson; father, Jhordin Henderson; brothers Charles Ray Henderson and Charles Robbins.
Born on October 18, 1941, he was raised by his grandparents, Mack and Arvie Caples on a farm in and around Brantley, AL. He moved to the Central Florida area in 1959, where he met his wife, Ethel, and they married in 1963.
As a young teenager, Gerald delivered medicine for a pharmacy in Pritchard, AL on his bike. He also worked with his cousins El and Lena Olmstead, at their store outside Opp, AL. When first coming to Florida as a young man, he worked for a painting and decorating contractor. He eventually ended up working and retiring after 30 years as a Field Supervisor from Tropicana Products.
In his free time as a young man, Gerald enjoyed fishing with his father-in-law, Wesley Rogers as well as boating and skiing with family and friends. After his retirement, he spent his free time bike riding and walking the West Orange Trail and doing yard work for friends.
A Celebration of Gerald's life will be held on July 16 at Becker Funeral Home in Clermont. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00pm with the service at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the charitable organization of your choice.
A gathering will take place at the Henderson's home after the service.
