IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gerald Jack
Broadhurst, Jr.
May 19, 1943 – May 21, 2018
Gerald Jack "Jer" Broadhurst, Jr. (May 19, 1943 – May 21, 2018)
Gerald Jack "Jer" Broadhurst, Jr. (Age 75), loving husband, stepdad, brother and son went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 21st. He is survived by his wife, Jan Smith Broadhurst; his stepson, Bruce Smith (Roxanne) of Orlando; sister Joyce Randall (Kerry) of Estacada, Oregon; sister Judy Taylor (Larry) of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; stepmom, Joanne Broadhurst of Estacada, Oregon.
Jer was born in Portland, Oregon to Gerald "Jack" and Cynthia Purcel Broadhurst. He spent his childhood in the small town of Estacada, Oregon graduating from Estacada High in 1961. Jer graduated from Oregon State University in 1965. He worked for International Paper for 37 years as a Business System Analyst and lived in many different cities during his career.
Jer and Jan met and married in 2001 in Savannah, Georgia and retired together in 2005 to Royal Highlands in Leesburg, Florida.
Jer was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and his greatest joy was serving the Lord. He taught Bible studies, went on mission trips and served in any capacity needed by his church. His personal mission was the parking team at FUMC that brings people from the parking lot to the church entrance. He also drove the church bus that picked up retirees so they could attend church. He often said how good it was to finally retire so he had plenty of time to volunteer.
Jer loved power boating on his boat "Disciple" and took several month-long cruises in her to the Keys and the FL Panhandle. He loved kayaking, hiking and being outside in nature. He also spent much of his time on politics and was First Vice Chairman of the Lake County Republican Party. He enjoyed talking about issues with voters and candidates.
We are comforted to know he is in the arms of the Lord.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cornerstone Hospice, 2445 Lane Park Rd, Tavares, FL 32778.
