Obituary

George Stauss was born in Philadelphia on February 16, 1954.  As a young man, he developed a love for nature and the outdoors.  For over twenty years, he shared this love with other individuals as an active member of and mentor for the Boy Scouts of America.  However, he was able to find another love when, on March 9th, 1985, he went on a blind date with June Gelovich.  A little over a year later, the couple were married on October 25th, 1986.  Over the next thirty-plus years, George and June were blessed with 3 beautiful daughters, Angela (29), Stephanie (23) and Sarah (18).

George would go on and introduce his family to the joys of camping (both tent and RV), boating, water-skiing, cruising, swimming and biking over this time.  George also enjoyed classic cars and had an awe-inspiring collection of scale model classics.  His thirst for knowledge led him to enjoy watching historical documentaries and Myth Busters.  His affable nature allowed him to embrace stand-up comedy and even to tell his own so-terrible-they-were-funny "dad jokes".  As a testament to his love for the humorous, his favorite TV show was Seinfeld.  George possessed a seemingly unparalleled mechanical prowess.  He was talented in drafting, carpentry, and mechanical tinkering-he enjoyed using the gifts God gave him to successfully renovate and repair his home, in addition to helping many others.  His career always exhibited such skills as well.  For over 25 years, in Medford, New Jersey, George worked as a machinist.

After relocating to Florida in 2003, George worked as a ride operator at Walt Disney World on Mission:  Space.  But, his desire to use his hands led to him becoming an RV technician, and then, finally, a lot porter at Independence RV.  A kind and gentle soul, George was a great lover of animals.  He, for the better part of 30 years, always kept hermit crabs.  His household was always home to a variety of pets, including dogs, lizards, fish, rabbits, hedgehogs, tortoises and cats.  George's favorite, though, was his best friend, his cat, Anakin.  On Friday, August 10th, the Lord, wanting to enjoy this wonderful man for himself, embraced George in his loving arms and carried him home.

George leaves behind a sister, Dorothy Cosenza and a brother, Jeffrey Stauss, along with multiple nieces and nephews.  George's legacy lives on in the hearts of his loving wife June and their three children, who will miss him dearly, but who know that they will once again be together in the eternal land of peace and love.
