Obituary

George was born in Ironton, Ohio to Jack and Fern Hart and moved to Groveland at the age of 3 months.

He graduated from Groveland High in 1965 and was later drafted into the Army in 1967, where he spent most of his service time stationed in Germany.

George began his career with Publix Supermarkets at the age of 16 and retired as market manager with 34 years in 1998. His second endeavor was building homes in Sumter County with his buddy, Alvin Chancey. He also had a custom meat shop for years with Gary Sutton, which he later ran with his oldest son, Charlie. For the last fifteen years, George has worked at Billy's Meat Market in Groveland. It was a job that brought him much fulfillment because he was working in the meat department, where he could use the knowledge he had gained from Publix and his own business, to help all the people he loved in his hometown of Groveland.

In 1971 George married Patricia "Patsy" Heard and they shared 52 wonderful years together. They were blessed with two amazing sons, Charlie Hart, (Kelly) of Clermont and Chip Hart (Amanda) of Palm Bay; and five grandchildren: Austin, Molly, Reegan, Gracey and Waylon; and one great grandchild, Ryker; and many nieces and nephews that he considered his own and one "sister" Brenda Prince. His family and closest friends knew him as "Porky" and we will all miss him greatly.

George enriched many people's lives. He was always a hard worker and was a man you could depend on to be there when you needed him. His diligence and dependability were seen in all he put his hand to accomplish. He never met a stranger, and he was always willing to help. He had many well-known sayings that were full of wisdom. Most can agree he was never at a loss for words, and usually managed to put a smile on your face.

He enjoyed raising cattle, working in his big garden, and had a love for food- both cooking and eating it! Fishing was one of the loves of his life and many great memories were made with family and friends on the Suwanee and Homosassa Rivers. He had always wanted to travel to the Louisiana Bayou and hook into one of those big bull reds. Thankfully, last year he and his two boys spent a few days doing just that! George said it was the best time of his life, "ain't nothin' better than fishing with my two boys."

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 10, 2023, 2pm at Inspired Life Ministries, 1568 Downing Street, Groveland, FL  34736.  The family will receive friends at the church starting at 1pm.
