IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George Otto
Haennicke
January 29, 1941 – March 5, 2021
George Otto Haennicke was called to his heavenly home on March 5, 2021. There he will join his father Otto and his mother Irene. His beloved wife, Margaret ("Peggy"), his daughter Katherine, and his daughter Jacqueline (Michael Johnson, step grandchildren Melanie, Christian, and Nichole) remain to remind the world of the larger-than-life history George leaves behind.
George had a special relationship with his brother-in-law Michael Marshall (Kim). George also leaves behind his sisters Carol Worobey (Bill) and Susan Haugen (James). George often talked with his cousin Bill Sell (Donna), usually about sports.
Others who will continue sharing his spirit include Lourdine Gawrysiak (Michael) and Florence Crowhurst (Thomas) along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, those considered family, and friends.
Growing up in Chicago, George attended St. Rita High School and a number of colleges, graduating from Central Methodist College (now University) in 1966. He became a chemist and worked for a government entity protecting the health and safety of those in the Chicagoland area.
His greatest adventure began when he met his wife, Peggy, and married her in 1969. George and Peggy raised two daughters and a number of pets, forging their own path that was not always easy but was always together.
George was a family man, welcoming all. He was generous of spirit and gifted with humor, always good for a cocktail and a laugh.
Protective of his family, George took great pride in providing and caring for those in his life, especially his wife and daughters. George was the original "Girl Dad", saying that God knew what he was doing when he gave George two daughters. George loved the fiercely strong women in his life, which he knew was a blessing and curse. A man of the highest integrity, one always knew where they stood with George. George rarely held back his opinion.
George was a golfer, bowler, and card player, especially bridge. He was an avid fisherman, even tying his own flies which he displayed on a hat whenever he went to class. George loved music and art, serving as the first male "Picture Lady" for his daughters' elementary school. George collected books on various topics, as his interests ranged from boating and fishing, to the Civil War and baseball. George was the ultimate Renaissance Man.
Services will be held at Resurrection Cemetery on June 19, 2021. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The National Kidney Foundation. https://www.kidney.org/donation
