George Paul Foster, Major United States Air Force retired, passed away on October 12, 2013 at South Lake Hospital, Clermont FL. with his niece Kathryn by his side. He was born to Kristina Erika Akergren and Charles Alfred Foster in Maple Plain, Minnesota on February 20, 1916. He is survived by 4 nieces: Patricia Foster (Tony) Bennett of Shoreview MN, Kathryn Foster (Doug) Thee of Polk City FL, Linda Anderson (Henry) Litschke of Hastings MN and Janet Anderson Amundson of Eagan MN, dear friend Betty Beiser of Tampa FL and daughter Theresa Beiser (Bruce) Miller of Brandon FL, 2 step sons: Todd Massey and Jeff Massey, several great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives Rosalynd Ike Foster and Mary Lou Massey Foster, his brother Carl E. Foster, Sister Elsie Anderson, and 3 nephews Bruce Foster, Carl D. Foster, and Gerald Anderson. He served in the military for 25 years enlisting as a Cpl in February 1942 and attending OCS, and commissioned as a 2nd Lt. and transferred to Baker Island which was a part of the Gilbert and Marshall Island campaign from 1943 - 1945. He also served in Puerto Rico, Tampa FL (McDill AFB), Goose Bay Labrador, Orlando FL (McCoy AFB), Japan, and Guam during the Viet Nam conflict, retiring October 1967. He spent his younger years in Minneapolis and graduated from Minneapolis HS in 1933. Prior to enlistment he worked at the Glen Lake State Sanatorium, Minnetonka, MN. That is where he met and married Rosalynd Ike June of 1941. They traveled in the military and eventually settled and bought a home in Orlando FL. Their beloved dachshund, Trinket was their traveling companion for many years. "Roz" passed away in July 1985 after 44 years of marriage. George then met Mary Lou Massey and they were married March of 1986 and eventually moved to Clermont FL and lived at King's Ridge Community. Mary Lou had 2 sons and passed away October 2002. George continued to live in his home until he moved to Superior Residences of Clermont April 2012 where he lived until his death. George loved music and became a self-taught organist and would give many impromptu recitals to visitors to his home. On his 97th birthday celebration for the residents of Superior he played "Happy Birthday" and some of his age old songs that he loved so dearly from memory. Many of his nieces and nephews to great-great nieces and nephews were entertained musically during visits to Florida. He also was an avid golfer, enjoyed building and flying model airplanes and building model ships which have been displayed on Columbus Day at the local branch of BB & T. He volunteered his time and ability to repair electrical appliances at the South Lake Animal Rescue League Thrift Shop, Clermont FL. His story telling abilities were enduring and loved by all who listened. During his later years he traveled to Hawaii, Alaska, and to Sweden to visit his mother's homeland.
Wing Chaplain, Major William Linn Fisher, USAF will preside over a memorial service which will be held at the Becker Funeral Home at 3 o'clock on Saturday, December 7, 2013.
