Fred's love of electronics led him to employment with Pratt & Whitney in Jupiter, Florida, where he worked as a metrologist until his retirement in 1993, at which time they moved to Clermont, Florida. Even after his retirement, he was constantly getting phone calls from co-workers for guidance on how to do many of the procedures that he did. His son, David, also took an interest in electronics, which they would do together at home.
Fred was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Jupiter, Florida, where he was active with the youth group. With his electronic background, he installed the sound system in the Church.
He enjoyed going on camping trips with his family to Helen Georgia, where they hiked the Appalachian trail. Fred was also an enthusiastic Disney fan. Great family memories were made at the parks.
