Ernst met Erika Bott at a local dance hall and they enjoyed many years of dancing beautifully together. They married in 1964 and immigrated to Calgary, Canada with Erika's brother Franz Bott, sister-in-law Luise Bott and they remained lifelong best friends. They booked passage on Holland America Westerdam ship on a transatlantic cruise and arrived in Montreal, Canada to board a train to Calgary. On the train Ernst sampled warm root beer and had a life long aversion to the drink.

on a construction site. This began his lifelong passion for building, construction and steel works. Ernie's construction history included building the Husky Tower (now the Calgary Tower), Southcenter Mall, Exshaw Cement Plant. He worked for Great West Steel and Canron Western Constructors in Calgary and Regina, SK. Ernie and Erika relocated to Portland, OR with Canron and he continued his busy career with Becker and SAPA Anodizing Inc. where he worked on the Jimi Hendrix Music Experience in Seattle, WA. He was proud of what he did from being an iron worker, steel fabricator and plant operations manager, and he earned the respect and friendship of those he worked with throughout the industry.
Ernie continued to be busy later in his career into retirement with great involvement with the Clackamas, OR and South Lake, FL Rotary Clubs. He enjoyed organizing and participating in fund raising events, singing Christmas carols at local Clackamas assisted living facilities and going to the local grammar school to help children learn to read. Ernie was very involved in sponsoring international students for the opportunity to attend high school in Portland, OR. He was proud to be a Rotarian and visiting the Rotary Club in Birmingham, England was a cherished memory.
Ernie lived life to the fullest and was generous in sharing his passions with friends, family and anyone who wanted to join in the fun. He enjoyed good food and Hennessy Cognac, he and Erika threw the best parties celebrating everything and anything including Oktoberfest, Christmas, Easter and all were welcome. He had life long cherished friends in Calgary, Regina, Portland, Orlando, Germany and Australia and all the places in between.
Ernst was an avid reader, particularly history and biographies of historic figures and collected an impressive library over the years. He enjoyed discussing history and topics of the day. Ernie was well traveled visiting Hawaii and Mexico many times, Australia, England, the Caribbean, Columbia and the Panama Canal.
Erika was the love of his life and he shared everything with her. They were a great team. He was a supportive father, mentor and companion; teaching me to enjoy his passions, find my own way, and be resilient. Ernie loved and admired his son-in-law, Daryl Golinsky, they were close friends for 30 years they shared a love of reading, travel and cooking.
Ernie and Erika relocated to Orlando, FL five years ago as his health began to decline and they could be near Susan and Daryl. He was happy to spend the last few years of his life in the sunshine and palm trees. Ernie had a literal, wicked sense of humor which was with him until the last. Ernie is survived by his wife Erika, daughter Susan Golinsky, son-in-law Daryl Golinsky. Ernie will always be loved and greatly missed…
