Ernie "Wheelman" Calardo, age 76, of Davenport, Florida, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully on November 5, 2024. Born on January 21, 1948, Ernie was the beloved son of the late Ernest Calardo Sr. and Regina Calardo. He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Calardo, and his sister, Linda Halasa, both of whom he cherished deeply.

Ernie's life was marked by dedication to his family and a remarkable career. He retired from Bell Atlantic originally known as New York Telephone which later became Verizon after 33 years of service, where he proudly held the position of Chief Union Steward. His commitment to his work was matched only by his passion for his family. He leaves behind his wife, Lilly Calardo, and his children: Gina and her husband Donald, Katie and her husband Les, and his son John Calardo. He was a loving grandfather to Joseph, Nicholas, Tiffany, and Michael.

Outside of his professional life, Ernie was a man of many interests. He had a deep love for cars and drag racing , he worked as a mechanic, showcasing his talent for refurbishing various items. His enthusiasm extended to collecting and playing with Lionel trains, and he had a particular fondness for old-school radio. An avid fan of doo-wop music, Ernie found joy in watching classic television shows like "The Bob Newhart Show," " This Old House , " "Gilligan's Island," "Barney Miller," and "Walker Texas Ranger." He also loved to cook traditional Italian dishes, often sharing meals with his family. Ernie's faithful companion, his dog Rosco, brought him great joy throughout his retirement years spent in sunny Davenport , Florida .

Ernie will be remembered for his generous spirit, kind
Personality , persistent willingness to help everyone , his quick wit, and unwavering love for his family. He touched the lives of many and leaves a lasting legacy of warmth and kindness.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate Ernie's life, allowing family and friends to share their memories and pay their respects.

The family will received friends Saturday, November 9, 2024, from 4pm until 6pm at the Funeral Home.  A Catholic Prayer Service will be held at 6pm.
