Emmett R. Riggs, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2019, at the age of 87.
Mr. Riggs is survived by 3 children: Sons, Perry Riggs and wife Lucy from Richmond, Texas, Brad Riggs and wife Sabrina from Oakland, Florida, and daughter Kelly Riggs from Fort Worth, Texas. He also leaves behind 6 grandchildren, Jessica, Timothy, David, Chelsea, Perry and Denera, including numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He will also be greatly missed by his closest friend, Rick Green, who rode with Emmett side by side on their Harleys over 70,000 miles on countless trips across the country.
He was born September 2, 1931 to Ray and Eula Mae Riggs and grew up in Pampa, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Tommy Riggs, wife Ethel Riggs, and his former wife Joyce Ensey.
Emmett was a sergeant in the Korean War, US Army 25th Infantry Division, 1st Battalion, where he earned several medals, including the Purple Heart, National Defense, Korean Service, Good Conduct and Combat Infantry Badge. He was Chief of Intelligence Recon Scouts, and wounded in September 1952 near Heartbreak Ridge. He fought in battles at Bloody Ridge, Iron Triangle and Chorwon-Porkchop Hill, and also earned 3 Bronze Stars for his bravery. In Mr. Riggs' later years, he was appointed as an insurance investigator for the State of Oklahoma, before retiring.
He was a member of The Military Order Of The Purple Heart, Oklahoma City Chapter 568, and served as Aide-de-camp to the National Commander.
Military graveside services will be held Tuesday, April 16th at noon at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery in Oklahoma City, under the direction of Buchanan Funeral Service. Visitation will be on Monday, April 15th at the funeral home from 6-8pm.
