Edith Graves Keys, of Tavares, Florida, was born June 11th, 1941 in Honolulu, Hawaii to her parents Herbert S. Graves and Ella Rae Shealy. As the daughter of a Navy Captain, she grew up on military bases in the northeast until the family made its way to settle in Winter Haven, Florida.
Edie received her degree in interior design from Virginia Commonwealth University and worked as a professional commercial interior decorator. She also spent time as a substitute teacher specializing in teaching art. Edie had a creative talent and enjoyed painting using water color and pen & ink. Edie was a wonderful mother and supportive wife. She organized the family camping and canoe trips and was always on the lookout for an adventure. If there was a trip to Disney World, Edie stayed for the fireworks every time.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Anthony Keys, Jr. She is survived by her sisters Linda Smith and her husband William also Betty Shorter and the late Bobbie Shorter. She is also survived by her daughters Deborah Kiely, her husband Michael Kiely, grandchildren Katherine and John as well as daughter Amanda Gadden, her husband Christopher, and grandchildren Andrew, Lauren and Zachary. Edie was a proud mother and grandmother who enjoyed watching her family grow.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 27th at 10am at the Becker Funeral Home in Clermont, Florida.
The family suggests a gift in her name to Cornerstone Hospice of Tavares, Florida. Cornerstone was instrumental in helping Edie find many good friends after her husband's passing.
