Obituary

Doris J. Willis, "Granny" age 91, passed away on July 30, 2017 while a resident of Health Central Park in Winter Garden, Florida.  She was surrounded by family and under the care of Hospice of the Comforter, so it was a peaceful and loving transition.  Doris was born in Hammond, Indiana on February 25, 1926.  While still in high school, she met her future husband, Paul Willis, who served in the Navy during World War II.  After he returned to Indiana from the service, they married in 1946, built a home and had 2 sons, David and Gary.  In 1955, they packed up all their belongings, started a new life in Windermere, Florida and built a home on the shores of Lake Tibet Butler.
Paul was an experienced mechanic who owned and operated Paul's Garage in Windermere and later in Winter Garden, Florida.  Doris was a meticulous homemaker and took care of their boys, but often helped Paul in the many business endeavors and hobbies they loved and shared.
As a couple, Doris and Paul had many adventures.  She traveled with him across the country in a small plane (and over the ocean to the Bahamas - even though she couldn't swim), on countless road trips with their boys and after they had grown, with their grandchildren.  In addition to the homes in Indiana and Windermere, Paul and Doris built an entire mobile home park in Dade City, Florida, an underground home in Texas and two homes in Montverde, Florida, where they lived for many years.
Doris is survived by her loving sons and their families: David Willis and wife Ellen, Gary Willis and wife Beverly; Grandchildren: Kimberly Bunton and her husband Tom, Becky Willis and Miki Manning; Great-grandchildren: Matthew and fiancee Krystin Boehnke and Anthony Niccoli.  Doris's sister, Betty Darnell of Indiana, and brothers Roy (and late wife, Jan) Kohen of Colorado and Ray and Linda Kohen of North Carolina, and many nieces and nephews.  Her friends at Brookdale of Ocoee (formerly Emeritus at Ocoee) still remark on her cheerful smile and funny stories.  Doris will  also by missed by Kimberly and Becky's mother, Barbara Beasley of Winter Garden.
Her lively spirit, carefree nature and LOVE TO DANCE will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.  Friends and family are invited to celebrate the life of Doris J. Willis at 11:00am on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Becker Funeral Home, 806 West Minneola Avenue, Clermont, Florida
"Daughter, sister, aunt, wife mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend (and dance partner) - You will be missed!!!"
