Doris Eloise
Redfern
March 2, 1931 – December 13, 2019
Doris Eloise Redfern, born on March 2, 1931, passed away peacefully in Sumterville, FL, on December 13, 2019.
Raised in Columbia, SC, Doris was the daughter of Eloise and Walter Smith. She moved to Miami during her high school years and married Gene Redfern in September of 1949. Together, they had three children: Bob, Pat, and Nancy. She was a dedicated homemaker for more than 25 years. When Gene passed away at the young age of 48, Doris entered the workforce and had a long-standing career at Publix Supermarkets, where she was secretary to the Vice President.
Doris taught herself to play the piano at a young age. She was a phenomenal musician, performing Sunday hymns for her congregation for more than 50 years.
Her devotion to her family and her faith was unsurpassed. Doris was deeply involved in her church as both a talented pianist and a beloved Sunday School teacher. The Lord was front and center in her life, and Doris always put the needs of others before her own. She delighted in the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Doris is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Tony Monheim, her "adopted" daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Rick Adlington, and her daughter-in-law Laura Redfern, son-in-law, Rick Deigsler and sister-in-law, Lois Smith. She also leaves behind 5 grandchildren and their spouses: Tammy and Dave Torok, Kelly and Robert Williams, Julie and Wyatt Marks, Michael and Amy Redfern, and Dan and Marianna Monheim. Additionally, Doris had 10 great-grandchildren: Kiley Redfern, Lucas Williams, Braydon Marks, Peyton Redfern, Ashley Williams, Braxton Redfern, Liam Marks, Gavin Marks, Bryce Redfern, and Weston Marks; also two adopted granddaughters , Kristen (Zach) Ducey and Rachel Adlington.
She was preceded in death by and now reunited with her parents Eloise and Walter Smith, her brothers, Joseph Smith and Walter (Sonny) Smith, her husband, Eugene Redfern, her daughter, Patricia Deigsler, and her son, Robert (Bob) Redfern.
Doris will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a genuine friend to everyone she met and impacted so many.
A celebration of her life will be held at Becker Funeral Home, 806 W. Minneola Ave., Clermont, FL, on Wednesday, December 18. A viewing will take place at 10:00 a.m., followed by services at 11:00.
