Doris Melvina Johnson Bishop, age 97, a resident of Clermont, FL since 1945, passed away January 14, 2020 at Clermont Health and Rehab in Clermont, FL.  Doris was born in Duluth, MN on February 17, 1922 to Alfred and Mina Johnson.  Her father immigrated from Sweden in 1902, her mother immigrated from Norway in 1904.  She was a graduate of Denfeld High School in Duluth, MN.

Doris met Clarence Bishop of Clermont, FL in 1942 in Duluth, Minnesota, where he was a pilot on a Great Lakes freighter. They married on June 9, 1944, and moved to Clermont in 1945. They built their own home on Seminole Street where Doris lived for 65 years. They raised their four children in this home: Claire, Craig, Carle, and Carole. Doris was a faithful wife and hard working mother who provided a wonderful home for her family.

Doris enjoyed music and cooking. She served as president of the Clermont Welfare League, which raised funds toward the expansion of Clermont's first hospital. She also served as an officer in the Clermont Junior Woman's Club and the Emblem Club as well as volunteering her time with the Girl Scouts. Doris was employed as a dispatcher of Clermont Police Department for 14 years.  She also spent many years working part time in her sons' paint store, Bishop's Paint and Decorating, on the corner of 8th Street and Montrose.

Doris is survived by her daughter Claire Bishop of Polk City, FL; son Carle Bishop (Wendy) of Clermont, FL; grandson Nathaniel Bishop (Rebecca) of Clermont, FL; granddaughters Emily Michels (Jeffrey) of Winter Garden, FL, Jessica Carleton (William) of Clermont, FL, Heidi Harvick (Christopher) of Minneola, FL, Courtney Bishop (Jennifer) of St. Petersburg, FL; nieces Delores Eikanger of Ocoee, FL and Marlis Kenniger of Lake Mary, FL ; and seventeen great grandchildren.

Doris was preceded in death by her father, Alfred Johnson; her mother, Mina Smedstad Johnson; her husband, Clarence Bishop; her daughter, Carole Bishop; her son, Craig Bishop; and her brother, Lloyd Johnson.

There will be an 11:00 a.m. memorial service January 18, 2020 at Clermont Baptist Church, 16115 Old Highway 50, Clermont, FL.
