Donald Ross Voorhees, 94, of Clermont, passed away Thursday, July 20, 2023. He was born August 16, 1928, in Haverhill, MA, to Minnie (Searle) and Vincent R. Voorhees.
He spent his early years in Penn Yan, NY, and Providence, RI. He graduated from Penn Yan Academy in 1945 and attended Syracuse University in 1946.
He joined the US Army and was stationed in Japan in 1950 and served in the Korean War in 1951 with the 25th Infantry. After returning home, he graduated from New England Technical University in Springfield, MA where he met his love of a lifetime, Marie. They married and had two children, J. Ross Voorhees, and Toni D. Voorhees, both deceased.
He spent his career at Stone and Webster Engineering Corp. where he was promoted to Vice President. Among the places he was stationed for work were Kingston Jamaica, Bombay India, Sao Paolo Brazil, and London England.
He loved traveling the world with his family and retired to Clermont in 1995.
Last July 4th, Donald and Marie celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary.
In his younger years, he enjoyed racing carts and motor racing for which he won many trophies. Later in life, he enjoyed watching Formula 1 and cherished his Ferrari. He shared his vast knowledge of classic vintage automobiles with his children and grandchildren.
He introduced his family to watersports, taught them to waterski and enjoyed many days on Lake Minnehaha.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marie; three grandchildren, Dashiell Voorhees, Aurelia Voorhees, and Nicholas Oscar Voorhees; and one great granddaughter, Veronica Voorhees.
A Celebration of Life with Military Honors, will be held Saturday, August 5, 2023, 11am, at Becker Funeral Home. The family will receive friends starting at 10am.
