IN LOVING MEMORY OF

Donald

Spratt

Obituary

Don was born on May 14, 1949, in Bromley, Greater London, England. He was raised there alongside his two brothers, Richard and David, by his loving parents, Dorothy and George Spratt. A lifelong learner with an inquisitive mind, Don attended several colleges and universities in England, earning multiple degrees that paved the way for a remarkable international career.

His work took him across the globe, including South Africa, Canada, and the United States. He married Sharon Spratt in 1980 and helped raise her 2 children, Larry and Sharry. His passion for adventure lead them on many ski trips, sailing off the California coast, and camping with other family members.

An accomplished engineer, Don contributed to the design of electro-optical components for the Boeing AH-64 Apache helicopter and served as a systems engineer for missile systems on the Titan and Atlas Expendable Launch Vehicles at Lockheed Martin.

Eventually, Don fulfilled a lifelong dream by moving to Florida to work with NASA. During the Space Shuttle program, he was responsible for the review and analysis of System Assurance Analyses (SAA). His dedication and passion for space exploration earned him the affectionate nickname “NASA Don” among his friends.

Don retired in 2014 and embraced his next great passion - flying. He made his home at Wilotree Park, living at the airport where he spent his days gliding, learning to fly powered aircraft, assisting fellow pilots, and enjoying a BLT and a beer at his favorite lunch spot, Barrels and Boards. He spent winters in Florida and summers in Europe, always ready to lend a hand to other flyers when he wasn’t soaring through the sky himself.

He was also a proud Brother of the Groveland Masonic Lodge No. 190 of Free & Accepted Masons. Although Don joined this ancient Fraternity late in life, his persistence, and youthful efforts, permitted him to become a Master Mason in April of 2019. He was proud of his Brotherhood and would frequently share his experiences with others. Don sponsored multiple individuals with their interests in the Fraternity and volunteered many times with Lodge activities in the public. Don accepted the duties and enthusiastically performed as the Junior Deacon of Groveland Masonic Lodge No. 190.

He is survived by his brothers Richard and David: former wife, Sharon Spratt; his stepson, Larry Bremer, and wife Caroline Bremer; his stepdaughter, Sharry Hart (Bremer), and husband Chris Hart; three grandchildren, Ryan Bremer, Austin Bremer, and Joshua Linde; and his nephews, Phil Spratt and Matt Spratt. Along with other blended/extended family members he is also survived by many dear friends whom he considered family.

Don will be remembered for his brilliant mind, adventurous spirit, generous heart, and the unmistakable enthusiasm with which he lived his dreams. He leaves behind a legacy of innovation, friendship, and a life lived boldly both on the ground and in the sky.
