Obituary

Deborah Sue Cassidy (née Hicks), 74, passed away surrounded by her family on May 11, 2024,
in Orlando, Florida. Born on December 22, 1949, in Decatur, Alabama, Debbie was a beacon of
love and warmth to all who knew her.

A lifelong educator, Debbie nurtured young minds and spirits throughout her life. After
graduating from Carman-Ainsworth High School in 1968, she earned a bachelor's degree in early
childhood education from the University of Michigan, where she also pursued postgraduate
studies.

Debbie dedicated her career to Beecher Community Schools in Michigan, serving in various
roles including Daycare Director, Child Development Instructor, and Director of Programs for
the Developmentally Disabled. Her leadership in the Even Start Family Literacy Program and
Adult and Alternative Education left a lasting legacy on the community.

A devout Christian, Debbie's faith was her guiding light. She was a cherished member of the
West Flint Church of God and Faith Tabernacle in Flint, Michigan, where she led Vacation Bible
School, taught Sunday school and Women's Bible classes, and spoke at numerous banquets and
retreats. She continued her active church involvement after moving to Clermont, Florida, joining
the visitation team at Real Life Church.

Debbie was a woman of quiet strength and unwavering grace. Her legacy of faith, love, and
education will live on in the hearts of those she touched. Debbie found joy in the sunshine, crafts
with her beloved grandchildren, and in precious moments with her loving husband, Garry
Cassidy. Married on August 1, 1970, Debbie and Garry were partners in every aspect of life.
Garry was not only her steadfast companion but also her devoted caregiver to the end.

Debbie is survived by her husband, Garry; children, Jodie Elazizi (Mohamad), John Cassidy
(Akari), and Jennifer Cassidy (Momen); grandchildren, Ahmed, Noah, Nadia, and Connor;
siblings, Anthony Hicks (Carol) and Sharon Wooden (Gary); and many more loving nieces,
nephews, cousins, relatives, and dear friends. Special thanks to her niece Deidre, and nephew
Chris for their love and support. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilma (née Brooks)
and George Hicks.
