Obituary

David John Weemhoff, beloved Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle, Pastor, and Friend moved from his earthly home into his eternal home with his Savior and Lord on May 2, 2024 at nearly 70 years old. Dave was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on June 13, 1954, grew up in Grand Rapids, then Jenison MI. He attended Sylvan Christian K-9th, Christian High -10th, & Unity Christian 11-12th. He also attended Reformed Bible College (Kuiper College), where he met, & later married, the love of his life, Kathy (Ritsema), on March 18, 1976. He continued his college studies at Calvin College (University) and Calvin Seminary. The Lord blessed Dave and Kathy with 4 children, and 8 grandchildren – Dave loved them each with his whole heart – and, oh, how he loved to laugh, tease, dance, talk – just spend time with Kathy and these dearest 'kids'!! They shared many adventures together, whether it be hiking, camping, checking out many lighthouses, exploring a fort, walking a beach, or climbing a mountain!

The Lord led Dave into ministry, and he spent nearly 40 years sharing Christ wherever he was called to, and beyond. Dave had a Pastor's heart, calling the many churches he served, 'family' – Prosper CRC, Falmouth, MI; Beaverdam CRC, Hudsonville MI; John Calvin CRC, Truro Nova Scotia CA; Ellsworth CRC, Ellsworth MI; First CRC, Sarnia Ontario CA; Morrison CRC, Morrison IL; Terra Ceia CRC, Pantego NC; and Faith Community Church, Colton SD. Dave had a caring, gentle spirit reflected whether visiting, comforting, encouraging, teaching, praying, or laughing with whoever he met. Dave was also involved with the Prison Ministry of Northern MI; shared in many Emmaus Walks in Northern MI. Dave became involved with Dunamis and was blessed to teach and ministered to church leaders in Haiti several times; as well as leading many studies on the working of the Holy Spirit and the Sovereignty of God. He served on several Christian Reformed Church committees, with a special passion for serving on the Board of Home Missions. Dave's passion to share his deep faith with all ages never stopped!

Dave drove bus as a substitute, for schools in 3 different areas (Ellsworth, Terra Ceia, and Colton), watching for opportunities to be the eyes, hands, and feet of Christ to many 'kids'. Following retirement, moving closer to family in Tavares, FL, Dave kept up his ministry in a very different way, as substitute teacher at Liberty Christian Prep. He was also able to help out with World Renew Disaster Relief teams, both in Eastern & Western Texas, as well as in southern Florida. He also brought meals to those how needed them through the South Lake Cares program, and really enjoyed visiting with these people when he did so. He also was on the prayer team at South Lake until illness prevented him from doing more. "Well done, good and faithful servant….."

Dave is survived by his wife, Kathy, of Tavares FL, children - Dan (Martha Bradley) Weemhoff of Waynesville, NC, Nathan (Stephanie) Weemhoff of Traverse City, MI, Dawn (Nick) Bloom of Tavares FL, Regi Weemhoff of Watford City ND.
