David Michael Thornton, 70, passed away unexpectedly at his residence in Clermont, FL the morning of July 24, 2024. David was born on April 5, 1954 in Burlington, Iowa and spent his childhood with his family in Fort Madison, Iowa. David married his wife, Teara Lynn Thornton, on October 2, 1976. In 1989 they moved to Columbus, Georgia where David was employed at GNB Battery Corporation. In 2002, David and Teara moved to Orlando, Florida where he had various jobs throughout the years. In 2010, they moved back to Burlington, Iowa where he worked as a corrections officer for the Iowa State Penitentiary until he retired in 2016.

After retirement David and Teara moved to New Port Richey, Florida in where he worked part time as a crossing guard for the Pasco County Sheriff's Office. David and Teara had recently moved to Clermont, FL in early 2024 to be closer to family.

David is survived by his wife Teara Thornton; two children: Jennifer (Brian) Bleau & Michael (Kyleigh) Thornton; four grandchildren: Tinley, Jemma, Piper & Vander; and an older brother: Monty (Beverly) Thornton.

A church service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Living Hope Church of Clermont located at 950 7th Street, Clermont, FL 34711 at 10:30 a.m., where friends and family are invited to honor his memory. A reception with light refreshments will immediately follow.
