David Paul Stanford died suddenly last Friday evening at his home in Clermont, Florida. He was 50 years old. Dave grew up playing sports, especially football, in Smithfield, Rhode Island. Dave was a Merchant Mariner who graduated from The Harry Lundeberg School of Seamanship at Piney Point, MD. He worked for many years with McAllister Towing & Transportation, making runs from New York to Florida. When injuries dictated a change, Dave turned his life-long love of music into a career in broadcasting. David also graduated from the Connecticut School of Broadcasting in Stratford, Connecticut. Dave worked as a DJ on radio stations in Richmond, Virginia Beach and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. David loved sailing and was a skilled sailor. He generously shared his passion with friends and family on his boats, the Hypocrite and Soundwave, on the Chesapeake Bay and Intercoastal Waterway. Blessed with many talents, David was an amazing cook and an earnest writer. He also loved photographing nature and photo-documenting his travels. David is survived by his loving son Jess Stanford a U.S. Marine; devoted mother, Gayle Ramsey; her husband, Charles Ramsey; his sisters Cid Stanford-Jarvis and Wanda Porter; his sister-in-law Gerry Stanford; his brother-in-law Brian Wellman; and many other nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, friends and family who loved him very much.
