David Michael Halpin, 69, of Groveland, FL passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013 after an extended battle with Alzheimer's disease. Dave was born on August 15, 1943 in Oconomowoc, WI, the son of the late Lawrence and Margaret (Schuele). He was raised in Cedar Rapids, IA and was a graduate of Iowa State University. After serving in the U.S. Army, he began his career as an industrial engineer. He spent several years with various divisions of the Quaker Oats Company, and the family lived in Cedar Rapids, IA, Hoffman Estates, IL, Huntington, CT, and Orchard Park, NY before relocating to Central Florida 22 years ago. Dave was very active in many civic organizations, including the YMCA, Boy Scouts, his church, and his children's schools. Among his many interests were dirt (off-road) motorcycles, woodworking, and travel.
Dave is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Kathleen (Lawler); children, Shannon (John) Zuzek of Grant, FL, Michael (Carmel) Halpin of Lucan, County Dublin, Ireland and Erin (Brendan) Walsh of Alexandria, VA; siblings, Larry (Judy) Halpin of Bonita Springs, FL, Cathy (Bill) Munsell of Cedar Rapids, IA, Jamey (Mary) Halpin and Molly (Tim) Eovino both of Naples, FL; his stepfather, Henry Haegg of Naples, FL; and 5 grandchildren, Olivia, Tristan, Conor, Ellie and Aoibhinn.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11AM Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, celebrated by The Very Reverend Robert E. Webster. The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorials to the Alzheimer's and Dementia Resource Center, 1506 Lake Highland Dr., Orlando, FL 32803.
