Obituary

David Fontanez, 66, of Minneola, Florida passed away on August 19, 2023.

He was born on September 19th, 1956 in New York City.

David was passionate about his family, filling rooms with laughter, seeing more of the world, and his work ethic.

David was tall, handsome, and smart, always winning at games like jeopardy and trivia; he was the comedian in every room, artistic, and thoughtful. He loved making memories with family and friends. Wherever he traveled, with ease and charm, he made lasting connections with those he met. He had a contagious smile and hearty laugh that was infectious.  In addition to his exuberance, he was tenacious and driven, never settling for less than the best outcome, and meticulous with his attention to detail.

Another integral part of David's youth was his time in the United States Air Force, where he was known as the "commercial artist," often asked to draw pictures and posters. He was strong, always fit and lifting weights, which served him well later on in his career as an ironworker in NYC and other states over the years. He was a profound storyteller, enthralling people with stories of his projects, some of which included Jacob Javits Center, Staten Island Ferry Terminal and the beginnings of Battery Park, and the bridges that are integral parts of the NYC we love.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Fontanez, their wonderful son, David Ryan Fontanez, his brother, Samuel Fontanez Jr., sister Deborah Caro, niece Sarah Caro, sister Cynthia Krakoff and nephews Marcello and Angelo Krakoff.

He is predeceased by his beloved mother Sarah Fontanez, father Samuel Fontanez, Sr., and nephew Carlo Steven Krakoff.

David was a good man, loved by many, and he will live on in our hearts and fond memories.

"The glory of God is man fully alive, but the life of man is the vision of God."-Ireneaus
