Daphne Althea Lawrence, affectionately known as "Mama", of Clermont, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 29, 2021, at South Lake Hospital in Clermont.
Daphne was born in St. Andrew, Jamaica W.I. to the late Thelma Rogers Montgomery and the late Arthur Plunkett of St. Ann, Jamaica. She attended Stratford High School in Kingston, Jamaica. After completion, she acquired the skill of sewing and enjoyed a long career making clothes to order, even wedding dresses. She was married to Eric Roy Lawrence who predeceased her. She was the oldest of seven children – four brothers and two sisters. Three of her brothers predeceased her.
Daphne immigrated to the US in 1981 and worked in home care as a nursing assistant. After retirement she migrated to Clermont, Florida. She enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, dancing, going to the beach, and taking care of her grandchildren. Living in Florida, she would visit Jamaica often. It was her favorite place to be.
Daphne dearly loved her family. She was the mother of 9 children including one son who predeceased her, grandmother to 29, great grandmother to 28 and great great grandmother to one.
Viewing will be at Becker Funeral Home, 806 West Minneola Avenue, Clermont, FL 34711 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Friday, June 18 th .
A celebration of life will be held at the Parks & Recreation Center's Main Stage Theatre, 3700 S. Hwy 27, Clermont, FL 34711 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Saturday, June 19 th . Interment follows immediately after service at Oak Hill Cemetery, 801 East Avenue, Clermont, FL 34711. Repass will follow at the Parks & Recreation Center's Main Stage Theatre from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM.
