Cornelius J. Comber Lt. Col USAF (Ret.) May 11, 1922 - April 15, 2014
On April 15, 2014, Jesus called his son Cornelius J. Comber home to be with him in Heaven. Cornelius, known as "Pat" to many was the loving husband of Florence Elizabeth Comber who has been watching over Pat and the entire family since May 27, 1968 when she was called home to be with God. Cornelius is remembered by his 4 children (Suzanne, Bill, Rob and Stephen) as a loving father and bedrock of the family. In addition to his 4 children, Cornelius is survived by 13 Grand-Children (2 who are with him in Heaven) and 11 Great Grand-Children all who loved him with all their heart.
Cornelius was born May 11, 1922 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - son of Francis Wayne and Grace Bennett Comber. He had 1 sister Grace, and 3 brothers - Bill, Wayne and Dick - all who greeted him at Heaven's door. In 1941 at the age of 19, Cornelius joined the U.S Army as a mechanic . On December 21, 1942 he was Honorably Discharged from the Army as Staff Sgt. Pilot and appointed as a U.S Army Flight Officer. From December 22, 1942 to May 30, 1943 Cornelius served as a U.S. Army Flight Officer - and on May 31, 1943 was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the United States Army Air Forces. Cornelius served his country for a total of 22 years retiring on October 11, 1963.
Besides Love for his Country, Cornelius loved his family and our Lord deeply. He was known by his family and friends as a man who loved life, a good joke and his family by his side. He loved to play his piano, a good game of monopoly, walking shark and taking a ride on Short-cake. He loved to dance, bowl, catch his crabs and enjoy a good steak on the grill with a cold Budweiser. He was well known for being frugal with the dollar - but it was counting his pennies that allowed him to always be there for his children. He loved to tickle his grandchildren, watch them grow-up and would always sending them on their way with the family-favorite Grand-dad dollar bill. As the Great Provider - he always made certain his family was cared for - to include asking everyone how they last slept - to which his answer would always be "with my eyes closed".
On April 15, 2014, Cornelius / Dad / Grand-dad closed his eyes for the last time. We will miss you - and honor you by always staying together as your loving children. Watch over us - pray for us - WE LOVE YOU.
