Cordelia Ann "Corky" Odom Bromwell Sanders, "loved by all who met her "went home to be with her Lord on March 12, 2012. Born January 5, 1919, in McKenzie, AL, the oldest child of Dottie and Fred Odom, she was nicknamed "Corky" by her younger sisters. She will be remembered as a vivacious, petite lady who loved her Lord and her family, and made the most delicious key lime pie in Florida.
A job opportunity for her father brought the family to Stuart, FL, in 1924, where Corky enrolled in the local elementary school. During the Depression, the family relocated to Deland, where she graduated from high school. In 1938 Corky met and married Howard Bromwell, her husband of thirty-six years, in Ft. Lauderdale. While raising two sons and a daughter, Corky served as United Methodist Women's President and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. Upon Howard's retirement, the couple moved to Stuart where she was active in the First United Methodist Church, volunteered many years at the Stuart Heritage Museum, and perfected her golf game. Corky was a member of the Martin County Golf and Country Club, where she often walked and played 18 holes four times a week, well in her 80's. Following Howard's death in 1975, Corky married an old family friend, Amos Sanders, in 1977. Corky and Amos enjoyed twelve wonderful years together, traveling the world, golfing, and gardening. In 2003 Corky moved to Clermont to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Bill D'heron.
Corky's life was full of joy and love. She greeted every challenge with a smile and determination. She is survived by her children Les Bromwell (Suzy), Jim Bromwell (JoAnn) and Cathy D'heron (Bill), step- son Cliff Sanders (MaryAnn); grandsons David, Robert, Andrew, Christopher, Jeremy and Jason Bromwell, two step-grandsons Matthew and Joshua Westerman, six great grandchildren Dana, Leanne, Amanda, Allison, Alan, and Mike, and two great-great grandchildren; sister Joyce Rogers (Leon), brother-in-law Munroe Sarvis, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandson Les Bromwell Jr., sisters Dotaileen Sarvis and Florell Sedman Thomas, brother Fred Odom Jr, brother-in-law Howard Thomas, and sister-in-law Carol Odom.
