Clermont — Charles "Buster" Godley, 80, died Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at the South Lake Hospital in Clermont, following an extended battle with leukemia.
He leaves his wife of 29 years, Ann R. Godley; his daughter, Patti Anne; his daughter, Belinda; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many close friends.
Born and raised in Miami, the son of Slade and Carolyn Godley, he was a long time resident of Clermont.
After graduating from Coral Gables High School in 1952, he attended The University of Florida.
In 1955 he joined the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1957.
After serving with the Army, Mr. Godley had the opportunity to join the furniture business founded by his Mother's family, Helmley's Furniture of Miami. Later, he partnered with his cousin to start his own furniture business in Winter Garden. He not only took pride in his business, but truly relished the friends he made during his time in business. Over the years, his furniture expertise and reputation led him to be named a top salesman and manager.
Mr. Godley had a passion for animals and had just recently felt a great loss when his beloved Boston Terrier "Millie" passed away after 12 years of companionship.
An avid golfer, he was a long time member of Green Valley Country Club in Clermont. He had served on the board of directors for Green Valley Townhomes Association.
Arrangements are:
Funeral Services for Mr. Godley will be held at 2PM Friday, June 26 at Becker Funeral Home, Clermont. Interment will be private at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Gotha, FL.
