IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles L.
Baker
December 15, 1936 – March 8, 2020
Charles Laurel Baker was born in Los Angeles. His parents Laurel Boyd and Beulah Baker, he was the middle child between two sisters Lucille the oldest and Lilly the youngest. His father was an architect and his mom was a school teacher. Chuck was not born into a Christian home but school friends, John and Jerry Reed led him to the Lord in his 10 th grade.
He had been attending a Methodist Church but quickly realized that the minister was not preaching the word of God. His friend, Ruth King later Ruth Dix was going to a Brethren chapel, later Ruth suggested that they start going to COD, Church of the Open door because it had a good young people's program.
He loved the teaching of J. Vernon McGee and being at that church, he met his first wife, Nancy there.
Later on, chuck attended Grace Community Church, and loved the preaching of John MacArthur. He listened to him online even last Sunday.
Nancy and Chuck were married until November 2000 when Nancy died of cancer.
Chuck and Nancy had 2 children Sharon lives in LA and Craig lives here in Florida.
He had 2 grandchildren who Sharon adopted, Maizey and Harbor.
Chuck had no idea what to do with himself after Nancy's death eventually Ted Honer called and said that he and Mary were going to Africa would he like to come. They arrived at RVA in May of 2001 and he fell in love with the place. The woodshop teacher was sick while Chuck was there and he was asked if he could teach a few classes, he taught for a week in the shop and his life changed.
He called RVA 'Teacher Heaven'. As soon as he could he went back to Los Angeles and inquired about teaching at RVA, he was back at RVA in September 2001. He ended up teaching a total of 53 years.
Chuck and I knew each other almost from the beginning at RVA but did not get involved until May 2006.
What made me fall for Chuck was his kindness to me. He drove me to Nakuru to find sheep skin slippers we never found them but he tried and tried to find this little shop in a town he had never been in. WOW!
We were married in December 2006 in Toronto and were quickly back at RVA to start 2 nd term.
He loved the students at RVA and they loved him. Many have written on Facebook that woodshop was their favorite class and Mr. B. was their favorite teacher.
MDS finally took his life on March 8 th 2020. God has been good to us for 13 years, 3 months and 6 days.
The scriptures ask us to Praise HIM in every circumstance, so PRAISE the NAME of JESUS.
