Carol McCandless, of Syracuse NY, 78, passed away peacefully after her courageous fight with cancer on May 1, 2023 with her husband Gary and son Erik by her side.  Carol was the daughter of Eileen Broga and earned her nursing degree at Syracuse University where she grew up.  Carol started as a nurse in Syracuse at a local hospital before transferring to the local school system where she stayed for 20 years.  In August of 1968 she married her husband Gary McCandless who has been by her side until her passing.

Carol always enjoyed family vacations to Walt Disney World and Ocean City, Maryland.  When she was at home she enjoyed spending time with Aiden and Alyssa (grandchildren) or working on her landscaping.  She also would of rescued every animal out there if she could.

Surviving is her husband Gary McCandless, children Erik McCandless (grandchildren Aiden and Alyssa) of Minneola, Florida and Christine McCandless Wenk (grandchild Liam) of Central New York

The family will receive friends Monday, May 8, 2023 from 4:30pm until 6:30pm with a Catholic Prayer Service at 6pm.  Interment at Florida National Cemetery will be Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at 12:30pm.
