Obituary

Carmen Delia Perez, 85, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2025 in Clermont, FL. She was born on March 21, 1940 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, daughter of Benedicta Quinones and Maximino Perez. Delia, as everyone affectionately called her, grew up surrounded by the rich culture and warmth of her family, which nurtured her creative spirit.

As she transitioned into adulthood, Delia's talent and kindness shone brightly. Her hands crafted exquisite arts and crafts, and her sewing creations brought joy to those around her. Delia was also a remarkable cook, and her kitchen often became a gathering place, filled with the laughter and love of family and friends.

Delia grew up in Brooklyn, New York. After getting married and with four children in tow, she moved back to Puerto Rico. In 1996, seeking new horizons and adventures, Delia made the courageous decision to move to Florida. Though the change was significant and not without its challenges, she embraced this new chapter with determination and warmth. Her career in the hospitality industry flourished, most notably at Walt Disney World. After years of hard work, she retired in 2002, leaving behind a legacy of joy and community.

Settling in Clermont, Florida, Delia created a nurturing home where her neighbors quickly became cherished friends. She remained deeply connected to her Puerto Rican roots, often sharing stories that sparked nostalgia and warmth in those lucky enough to hear them. Her door was always open, and her home was a sanctuary of celebration, where family gatherings were filled with love, laughter, and wonderful memories.

Delia's heart swelled with love as she spent time with her children—Debbie, Jackie, Diane, and Manny—and her cherished grandchildren, Jackie, Danny, Nicole, Michael, Julie, and Genevieve. The joyful chaos of her great-grandchildren, Milo and Gio, brought her immense happiness. She relished these moments, often sharing her life's adventures, her eyes sparkling with fond memories.

Yet, like many, Delia carried the profound weight of loss. She cherished the memories of her father, Maximino; and her beloved grandson, Richie, whose absences left tender spots in her heart. She also held her siblings—Margie, Andre, Sylvia, and Cami—close in her thoughts, finding comfort in the belief that their spirits were always with her.

The incredible bond she shared with her mother, Benedicta, who is 102-years-old, was a source of strength and inspiration for Delia. Their connection was a testament to enduring love and family, wrapping them in a tapestry of shared stories and laughter. She is also survived by her siblings Mary, Olga, Emma, Milagros, Dorca, Ángel Luis, and José Antonio.
