Carleton was also an active member of CERTS in Polo Park where he resided.  In  later years, he crafted canes from woods found around the world, which he donated to any Veteran who needed one, with the promise that it be donated to other Veterans once they were done with them.  He and his wife also attempted to play the game of golf, sometimes even succeeding at it.  Carleton was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Susan Tori Hogue.  His survivors include his beloved wife of 60 years, June E.
